The Model VI is an AC interface for any inverter, single or dual, 120 or 120/240.
Off the shelf components are used, simplicity and safety are foremost. It replaces a manufactures proprietary system that is often expensive, cumbersome and includes obscure components.
1-The left box with a mechanical interlock is the generator panel, it allows selection between two generators usually one hardwired and an input for a portable or a transfer between generator and grid. The inverters are feed from here as well as circuits for generator only loads such as a battery charger for the crank battery. The mains from this panel are connected to the by-pass breaker.
2-The center box with a mechanical interlock is the by-pass panel, with feeds from the generator panel as well as the inverter returns. This panel is where the main service ground might be located. The wire from the ground plate would terminate on this ground bus as well as a jumper between the ground and the neutral (green to white) this jumper simulates the brass screw in a service entrance switch. This tie can occur at one point only in the system. This panel is a good location for auxiliary equipment such as a line balance auto-transformer used with some 120/240 dual inverter set-ups.
3- The right box is the site distribution panel. The mains from this panel are connected to the mains of the by-pass panel, both inverted and generated power are available here. This panel will feed all loads; lights and plugs in the power house, pumps and sub-feeds to remote panels.
Parts list:
2- Square D generator transfer panels. QO48M60DSGP. These panels come with 2 pole 60 a breakers which be changed to a smaller size to protect equipment. These panels are a modified stock load center with a mechanical interlock and breaker clamps. www.squared.com
The mechanical interlock CQO2DTI is inexpensive and can be ordered separately with a load center and assembled on site. Note: the clamps are used on back-feed breakers for safety.
1- Square D load center 8 space or larger depending on site needs.
2- 1 1/4” steel or EMT nipples c/w lock-nuts and bushings.
Ground plate and lug.
Short lengths of #6 wire (red, black, white and green)
Additional breakers as required.
